Cech: Pleasing Reaction

Image
Petr Cech refused to call Sunday's result at Manchester United 'unfair', but is taking the positives from a highly competitive afternoon. We had at least as many goalscoring opportunities as our hosts at Old Trafford, yet went in three goals behind at half-time after Chris Smalling, Nani and Wayne Rooney had beaten the Chelsea goalkeeper and his team-mates passed up opportunities at the other end, but Cech feels we can take consolation from the second half. 'You can never say it is fair or not, but they scored three goals and we scored one. The reflection of the day is there,' said the 29-year-old. 'They were efficient in terms of scoring goals and that's why they won, [but] we can be pleased with our reaction in the second half.' It was a second period in which Fernando Torres scored once and should have had at least one more, while Branislav Ivanovic also went close twice from headers. 'Three-nil down is never easy, but we came back,

Cole in clear over Hernandez (Chicharito) tackle

The Football Association said Monday that Chelsea left back Ashley Cole would not face further action for a shin-high tackle on Javier Hernandez in Sunday's 3-1 loss to Manchester United. Cole caught Hernandez with a nasty two-footed challenge, although no penalty was awarded as the ball had gone out of play, and the Mexican striker was forced to come off with an injury that could keep him out for at least two weeks. United boss Sir Alex Ferguson branded the tackle "shocking" and worthy of a dismissal but under Fifa rules Cole cannot be punished retrospectively as match officials took action to deal with the incident at the time, referee Phil Dowd deeming a yellow card sufficient punishment. "For me it's a shocking tackle. The referee has booked him (Cole) and if he's booked him I don't know why it wasn't a penalty," Ferguson said afterwards.

Fernando Torres woeful miss

Fernando Torres went from hero to zero as the Spain striker's troubled spell at Chelsea continued with an embarrassing miss in his side's 3-1 defeat at Manchester United on Sunday.Torres seemed to be having a rare day to remember in a Chelsea shirt as he scored just his second goal for the Blues since his British record £50 million transfer from Liverpool in January. His cool, chipped finish over David de Gea just after halftime gave Chelsea a glimmer of hope after United's three-goal salvo in the first half and gave him a just reward for an enterprising display. Yet, just as things were looking up for Torres he reverted to the clumsy form that has seen him written off as the biggest transfer flop in Premier League history. When Ramires sent Torres clean through on goal in the closing stages, the Chelsea striker looked certain to score as he skipped round United goalkeeper David de Gea. But, faced with an open goal and just six yards out, he somehow contrived to scuff a
